Weekly Photo Challenge: Work of Art

2014-05-23_pc_work of art

While the Bohemian and I worked into the night, handcrafting our wedding invitations, we were visited by this fairy-like creature in green.

It hopped all about our little art project of love. As we watched in wonder, we couldn’t help but notice the similarities of wing and ribbon. A reminder that all of this creation within which we live, is one flourishing demonstration of art enlivened. Each moment offering glimpses into monumental works.

Note Card of the Week – Grasshopper

Note Cards from Love Letters Press

The circle of sharing widens, as some of my favorite images from For the Archives are now available as note cards at my Etsy shop, Love Letters Press.

Each week on the Archives, I’ll feature a card and its accompanying story (because every image has a tale).

Joining me in the introduction of this series, is my friend the grasshopper. It seems fitting, as this friendly little insect arrived at an auspicious time.

It had to have been around midnight. The Bohemian and I were deep into our wedding invitation-making project, up into the wee hours crafting handmade invites for our upcoming nuptials. In the midst of paper scraps and ribbon, this grasshopper alighted on to the center of our table. It bounced like a blessing, light-as-a-feather, all about our invitations. Eventually it settled on to this fresh-cut zinnia, where it was kind enough to let me snap a shot.

Creating these cards makes me smile. Sharing them with you brings me happiness. Knowing that you may pass them on to someone you love, well, that’s just a beautiful thing.

All cards are hand-made, with care, on recycled paper.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Treasure

2014-02-14_treasure

The Bohemian and I had made a last-minute, end-of-the-day decision to go catch the sunset. We threw an orange, some crackers and two beers in a backpack, and made our way to one of our favorite spots on the island: the beach where we first met.

Once on the sand, we wandered along the shore, taking in the salt air, letting time slow. As my toes moved through infinite grains, I discovered a shard of pottery, its diamond-esque shape etched with a blue feather. Perhaps a harbinger of sorts.

Because little did I/we know that before that sun went down, we would be enraptured in an essence of love. Some all-encompassing infiltration that seemed to gleam in the light, reflecting off the sea, moving with the breeze in the trees.

There had been no plan on his part. But there it was. The Bohemian was feeling it, no words, but I could sense it.

So when the syllables finally moved from his mouth to the air: “Jessica Lynn Dofflemyer, will you marry me?” I soaked in every sound and searched deep within my heart.

There was love. Our love. This love. The all-encompassing Love with the capital L. A Love that is here for everyone.

Once in a while you find someone with whom you can share that love…it is a true treasure.

And to that, (and to the Bohemian) I said ‘yes.’
