Had to get pretty close on that one. Though I learned later that they’re rather vulnerable when their molting. We opted to let it be (no extermination) but I have to admit I’m a bit more jumpy in the garden now, wondering where it ended up.
Aloha Katie….thanks for asking. I’m just learning about this plant from my gardener friend and we have one in our own garden. It’s related to hibiscus – not really for eating raw, but great when steeped in hot water for a tea. My friend has also processed it as a jam. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roselle_(plant). What does roselle fruit taste like? I’ve never heard of it and it intrigues me!
