On the Rails

Another entry from the BC Scrapbook, these photos chronicle our departure from Canada, as we made our way south, via the Amtrak Coastal Starlight train. From Seattle to San Jose, we had 24 hours of sight-seeing from the rails.

With only a few brief stops where we could actually disembark, Portland, Oregon, offered us the chance to stretch our legs and smell the roses.

Arriving in San Jose, California, we had two days to wander and play with past and future. On one day, we attended a lively Renaissance Faire, full of sarsaparilla, chain mail, and live jousting on horseback. The next day it was The Tech Museum of Innovation, Silicon Valley’s launch pad of all things Geek, with 3D printers and robot building workshops.

Somewhere on that time continuum we came across an abandoned carousel and a giant muffler expert.

Caught in the Keys

It’s been over a month since I was in British Columbia, but back home I’m still sifting through items for the scrapbook.

I may have been on pause with the Archives during my travels, but you all were still in my heart and mind.

Here’s a love letter to you during the time of my trip, crafted on an old-fashioned typewriter. It’s a sort of ‘wish you were here,’ with no way to send at the time I typed it. Caught in the technology chasm between ancient and present-day, WordPress’s Publish button can now deliver…

All in An Afternoon

You can cover a lot of ground on a tiny, speck of an island, nestled in British Columbia’s Georgia Strait. One round-trip traverse found us at a lake, that led to a forest, where we found an abandoned cabin just a mile from the sea.

In our home on Hawaii, we see jungle, shells, and sea life every day, but these were all of a different clime. So interesting and beautiful!

I’ve got a real-live scrapbook in hand, making a collage of this recent summer trip. These photos are part of the archival sort. Just a little more from the BC Scrapbook.
